P.R. Harikumar is a writer in Malayalam, the south Indian language mainly spoken in Kerala. He is writing stories, poetry and literary criticism. He was an associate professor at Sree Sankara college, Kalady.
He was born in 1960 at Attingal, a small town in Thiruvananthapuram district. He started his literary career at the age of 15 by writing poems. His first work published in a magazine was a story called “Muthassiyude Vazhi”(1980). Since then he is regularly contributing articles for various periodicals in Malayalam like Mathrubhumi weekly, Deshabhimani weekly, Malayalam Vaarika, Vijnanakairali, Bhashasahithi, Sahithyalokam etc.
His first book, Niram Veezhunna Varakal, a collection of short stories was published in 1990. His second book, Vakkinte Souhrudam-a collection of literary essays -was published in 1992 through Current books, Thrissur. His third book Aliyunna Alroopangal, a collection of short stories, was published in 1998 through Current books, Kottayam. His fourth book Ezhuthinte Mudrakal- a collection of Essays- was published by Z Library ,Thiruvananthapuram in 2012 . A collection of poems written in recent years was published in 2016 with the title Nadeematrukam from Thiruvananthapuram.
In 1988 he got Thunchan Smarak Samman from Kerala Sahithya Akademi for his paper on “The development of Poetic language in Malayalam”.
He got a special prize for his short story-Veendum Varunna Oraal- from Kathasamithi, Muvattupuzha.
Apart from literary contributions, he is also writing articles on Vedanta and Sri Ramakrishna. Last year (2020) he published a study on Gospel of SriRamakrishna with the title “ Vachanamritamananam “ . This year (2021) Kerala State Institute of Languages published his latest book “ Ekantam Vedantam” ( A Study of Vedantic Vision).
